I played with inks today, and ended up doing this.

This here is my gorgeous girl (the real pretty one with glasses)
She is my whole world and there’s no one else I’d want to spend the rest of my life with. She’s currently in hospital after breaking her leg at Roller Derby training. I was there, I saw it and I was likely to have been part of the reason why she ended up with 3 fractures and a dislocation. I was with her the whole time; she is so brave and I am incredibly proud of how well she is dealing with all this.

I love you sweetheart, I’m always with you <3

Annnnd this is why merby pisses me off. Nashville STILL hasn’t had an article that approaches us from the sport and organizational angle like this.

It’s not about the skaters. I’m glad that people have found something they love in derby, but when the women who built an institution here in Nashville can’t get any love but men can just waltz in? The hell.

Oh please. The entire of men’s derby pisses you off because the biggest men’s team in the world, who are paired with probably the most famous women’s league in the world, got a piece written about them and your league didnt?

Boo friggen hoo.

Did you read the srticle? One of the biggest problems men’s derby faces is recruitment because noone knows about it, they think its just for women. Surely if men were just ‘waltzing in’ it would be the other way around. Neither myself, nor ANY mens derby skater I know has tried to take away from the women’s game, or has anything less than the up most respect for what theyve done.

The only skaters I have a problem with are the ones, like you, who seem to think that we’re invading your sport. In reality, men have always been coaches, refs, fans, bench and line ups, NSOs, and volunteers. We’re good enough for that but you just don’t want us plsying?

As far as I’m concerned, I wouldn’t deny a man the chance to play derby any more than I’d be expected to be denied the chance to play rugby.

Remember when I made this post about Claudia and I attempting to traverse around London and visit all of the landmarks you’d find on the Monopoly board? You don’t? Understandable, you’re allowed to have a life.

WELL. Things have had a bit of a rejiggle. After talking to Watson (as in Mark Watson, not the fictional Watson from whatever Sherlock Holmes-esque-verse you’re thinking of) he has given Claudia and I the job of transforming the streets of London into a real-life Monopoly board for contestants and a select few comedians to play on during his 25hr Laughathon. This shall involve us putting up giant Monopoly squares at the destinations and hiding flags/prizes for the teams to collect along the way. All of this will be happening during the day of Thursday the 28th February (allowing me and Claudia time to sleep in the late afternoon/evening in preparation for staying awake for the next 25hrs!).

Now, this is where you come in; we need donations. Yes, we’ll be armed with a collection bucket that people can chuck in whatever loose change they have on them as we decorate London, but we need more than that.

Here’s what your money can boil down to;

£15 could screen ten children in Africa for an eye condition so that they can receive the right treatment

£25 could provide exercise books for 25 homeless children in Ghana to help them gain an education and the chance of a better life

£50 could provide one to one therapy sessions for two children in the UK who have suffered from neglect and abuse

We’ve set our goal as £150 in donations. It’s quite a big amount, but it’s definitely achievable.
